��[Purpose/significance] In view of the differences between China and western developed countries in social system, social culture, economic development level, etc., this paper compares the different characteristics of the special services of public libraries in China and abroad, and provides reference for the development of the special services of public libraries in China.[Method/process] Based on the investigation of the status of the special services of public libraries in China and abroad, this paper respectively identified the main types of special services of Chinese and foreign public libraries through cluster analysis and conducted comparative analysis to reveal the commonalities and differences.[Result/conclusion] Comparing the characteristics of the special services of Chinese and foreign public libraries, this paper finds that the academic content of the special service of Chinese public libraries need to be improved, and the training of library professionals needs to be strengthened, and further attention needs to be paid to the interaction between libraries and their users in service process, so as to improve the attraction and influence of the special services of the public library.     

Capturing Citation Activity in Three Health Sciences Departments: A Comparison Study of Scopus and Web of Science

Scopus and Web of Science are the two major citation databases that collect and disseminate bibliometric statistics about research articles, journals, institutions, and individual authors. Liaison librarians are now regularly called upon to utilize these databases to assist faculty in finding citation activity on their published works for tenure and promotion, grant applications, and more. But questions about the accuracy, scope, and coverage of these tools deserve closer scrutiny. Discrepancies in citation capture led to a systematic study on how Scopus and Web of Science compared in a real-life situation encountered by liaisons: comparing three different disciplines at a medical school and nursing program. How many articles would each database retrieve for each faculty member using the author-searching tools provided? How many cited references for each faculty member would each tool generate? Results demonstrated troubling differences in publication and citation activity capture between Scopus and Web of Science. Implications for librarians are discussed.     

Identifying Holdings Unique to Your Library's Collections Using WorldCat

ABSTRACT

Having a good understanding of the variety and concentration of rare holdings in our libraries is becoming more and more important, not only for preservation and access purposes, but also for collection management and marketing. This article details how WorldCat's standard search interface can be used to identify holdings unique to particular institutions, or to compare the holdings of one or more institutions based on the relative rarity or ubiquity of the materials in their collections.     

The National Clearinghouse on Aging

This paper discusses the creation of the National Clearinghouse on Aging within the federal government and the involvement of the Clearinghouse in the planning and initial implementation of a proposed Service Center for Aging Information (SCAN). This automated, bibliographic information system and its proposed products and services are described. The differing user groups and information needs involved with gerontological research and the provision of social services to the elderly are also discussed.

中英美出版产业国际竞争力的演进比较

通过对中美英的国际贸易规模、结构、国际竞争力指标等多方面的统计分析,发现经过10年的高速发展,中国传媒类产品的国际竞争力已超越英美,但竞争优势在缩小;中国传媒类服务的国际竞争力与英美等国差距巨大;英美传媒产业数据表明传媒产业的服务化已成为国际趋势;美国在核心传媒服务——版税和许可费服务方面专业化程度高,在国际上具有垄断性优势。     

中日SCI论文资助基金关联特征比较分析

[目的/意义] 比较分析中日两国多项资助基金的关联特征,找出中国多项科技资助存在的问题,为科技基金规范管理的决策提供参考依据。[方法/过程] 以2014年SCI收录的中国内地和日本的多项科技基金资助论文为研究对象,利用社会网络分析方法,对中国内地和日本科技基金的关联分布、科技基金合作网络特征、主要关联基金的影响效果进行比较分析。[结果/结论] 中国内地的多项基金资助SCI论文中,92.8%有国家自然科学基金、国家部委基金及地方政府基金的关联资助;日本的多项资助SCI论文中,86.41%有国外基金、文部省基金、学术振兴会基金、企业基金、科学振兴机构基金、厚生省基金的关联资助。与日本相比,我国多项科技资助的来源比较单一,明确各类基金在科技资助体系中的分工,减少自然科学基金、各级政府基金的多项关联资助,吸引国外基金、企业基金、各类社会团体基金的共同资助将是我国科技基金的发展方向。
